The main focus of the Sudanese Outreach is to build relationships through recreational activities, devotions, tutoring, mentoring, and
sharing our lives through a biweekly outreach at The Hope Center. Our goals include being an advocate for the over 8,500 refugees now living in Omaha, Nebraska,
teaching them through our commitments and our love for them that their hope is in Jesus Christ.

HISTORY
Hope For Sudan Outreach started in July of 1998 as part
of a Fusion Street School Outreach in Omaha Nebraska.
We spent a week with a team from Fusion holding a basket
ball clinic, having devotions and forming relationships.
At the time, there were only 1,200 Sudanese in Omaha.
We had 13 kids show up the first night. After that week,
God laid a burden on the hearts of Linda and Larry Heuertz
for the Sudanese. When the Hope Center opened in October
of that year, they allowed the Outreach to meet there.
God has blessed us with a team that now numbers over 35
that have a faithful servant heart for the Sudanese. |

OMAHA SUDANESE OUTREACH
We are in our 8th year of ministering to the Sudanese and being ministered to by the Sudanese. We charter 2 school buses to go out into the Sudanese
communities in Omaha, Nebraska to pick up the kids. The number of children that come every other week now has reached as high as 250-285.
We have a time for the kids to sing praise & worship
songs, have crafts, face painting, read stories and
just basically develop friendships with the kids. Pray
for their needs with them. We always have a meal for
them. The older kids play video games, pool, basket
ball, and soccer outside when the weather permits. There
are also spiritual devotions for all ages! |

A VOICE AND AN ADVOCATE
Outside of the Omaha Sudanese outreach at the Hope Center, our desire is to be a "Voice and an Advocate" for the Sudanese. We have
spent time working with immigration and the courts in areas of documentation, attending athletic and school events, had conferences with school counselors,
tutoring, gone on doctor visits, helped with employment opportunities, explore housing opportunities.
Linda has been a Lamaze coach for some of the Sudanese
mothers. Our team distributes free clothing 3 or 4 times
per year, collected through clothing drives. |

Our team continues to teach the Sudanese
about American customs and Holidays. We spend time in
the Sudanese Communities, as guests in their homes.
We have many Sudanese into our homes. We go on community
outings, such as the zoo, movies, the pumpkin patch,
shopping and out to eat with them, along with teaching
life skills, mentoring and discipling youth.
We attend Sudanese church services. We have been at
Sudanese weddings and parties. We have established a
Sudanese Church and helped sponsor 2 Sudan Days sanctioned
by the Mayor’s office.
Above all, we are ministered and taught by
the Sudanese. They teach us their customs,
explain their holidays, and accept us into their homes.
Americans can learn so much form these sweet, loving
and caring people!
